Shenandoah River Outfitters' Specialty!
Let our experienced staff cater a riverside lunch. After you paddle halfway leisurely down river, the aroma of hamburgers and grilled onions directs you to a hearty lunch cooked on a one-of-a-kind saw blade skillet. After lunch, you continue on to the most exciting and beautiful part of the of the Shenandoah, a class 2 rapid called “Compton’s Rapid” followed by a deep swimming hole with magnificent towering orange and gray limestone cliffs.
After lunch and more river excursions, in the afternoon, you will paddle on a few more miles past Compton’s to your pickup point and then have a winding scenic ride back to the Outfitters in time to shower, freshen up, and get ready for dinner. Relax at our open-air pavilion while dining on the sizzling steak and chicken BBQ along with live entertainment while friends tells stories of their adventure on the Legendary Shenandoah River. A Perfect ending to a Perfect day!
Plan to dine with us in 2026 from Memorial Day to Labor Day Saturdays. Reservations need to be made 2 weeks in advance. We need at least 30 for each meal. You can call to see if you can add on to either meal. Other days by special arrangement with advanced notice and at least 30. More information below.

More Information
Rough Itinerary
- Plan to arrive by no later than 10am so you are on the river in time to arrive at lunch.
- Lunch: ~ 11:30am to 1:00pm. Lunch is located at a designated boat landing along the river (usually #16).
- From lunch, you launch back into the river to finish your trip. At the end of your trip (#19 or #20) you will be shuttled back to the outfitters.
- Dinner: ~ 5:00pm- 6:30pm. Dinner is held at the pavilion located behind our outfitter store/campground.
- Be sure to pick up your meal wristbands at check in! There are different types of wristbands for lunch and dinner so, if you purchased both make sure you have both!
What watercraft will I be in?
- Dinner can be added no matter which river activity you choose!
- Lunch is generally restricted to kayaking and canoeing only due to the lunch location on the river.
- Depending on water levels and other conditions, rafters may be able to participate in lunch as well. Please call in to check!

How To sign up
- Meals are Saturdays only!
- The calendar above shows which weekends meals will occur.
- When booking your trip, simply select your desired meal add on.
- You can sign up for meals for ANY Saturday; however, we need to have at least 30 participants! Please call in about current number of participants.
- If there are not enough participants, we will refund you for the meal at check in -or call in.
VIRGINIA'S NO DRINKING IN PUBLIC LAW
- We want everyone to be safe on and off the River.
- Alcohol and drugs can affect your judgment and your abilities can be diminished. Virginia is taking a strong stand against drinking in public and while on the water. Open containers in public and in National forest boat landings can result in tickets/fines.
- Please use wisdom so you can enjoy the river and return for years to come. We reserve the right to check coolers. Please no glass on the river.
