Camp OutBack has 25 tent campsites under a canopy of hardwoods and white pines. The campground borders the George Washington National Forest and steps away from the Outfitters.
Spend your day either paddling the beautiful Shenandoah River, hiking on the mountain trails, fishing or swimming at nearby river access points.
The charming, picturesque town of Luray host small eateries, live entertainment, brews, shops and more. Also home to Luray Caverns and the Thorton Gap entrance to the Shenandoah National Park.

Each Site includes
- Picnic Table
- Fire Ring
- Charcoal Grill
- Up to 10 Campers & 5 Tents
- Shared bathroom facility with hot water showers.
Firewood, ice and some other camping supplies are for sale in the Outfitter store. Please note that there is no electric at sites and no dump facilities- we are not set up for RVs.
Other information
- We reserve a space for you but not a specific campsite. It is ‘first come, first serve’ on selecting a specific campsite from the ones that are not taken.
- Check in time on Saturday and Sunday is after 10 AM. Other days–9 AM
- Check out time on Saturday and Sunday is by 10 AM. Other days–by 5 PM.
- Dogs are welcome but must be current on shots & be kept on leash.
- Please read the Camp OutBack Rules for our campground.
Add a river trip to your stay
Booking a river trip is a must when staying in our campground! Simply stroll from the campground to check-in. Most of our river trips include shuttles to and from the river, making it convenient and hassle-free for those staying to also enjoy the river!
Staying at our campground does not include river trips, so if you want to get on the river while you are here, be sure to make a separate reservation!
Rates
- Each site is $44.00/night minimum (1 to 4 persons).
- Each additional person is $11.00 per person per night with up to 10 persons per site.
- Children 8 years old and under are free.
- Non-profit Group Rates–Mid-week (non-holiday)–for church, school and scouts-each site is $27.50/night minimum for 1 to 4 persons. Each additional person is $6.88 per person per night with up to 10 persons per site.
